Is anyone using .net core 2.1 and External SqlServer with instance names for storage?

Hey all, has anyone been able to get dotnet core 2.1 to work with sql server? I’m getting strange errors on my windows machine, mac OSX vm, and even when trying to run it from Docker.

I’d love to be able to spin up more work processors in docker containers.

when trying to make a new console app and trying to use a connection string like this:

I’ve tried Data Source as well as Server but still get errors.
